half an hour (2024)

30’, performance, digitalized colour negatives

June, 2024

Yerevan, Armenia

The performance was executed within the context of the artist duo “ena ena“.

The performance attempts to expose the stigmatization of menstruation in Abrahamic religions and contemporary society, labelling menstruating individuals as unclean and excluding them from religious and social activities. Contrastingly, cultural practices like "sheet ceremonies" celebrate blood from a bride’s wedding night as a symbol of virginity and purity, even though this expectation is rooted in violence and domination. This reflects patriarchal attitudes that simultaneously demonize natural menstruation and demand proof of purity through blood, perpetuating a violent reality.

Photos were taken by Ronja Hage Tange (ena ena).
